They love him! They reeely love him! Enough to land him for the host role at the Oscars coming February 24th, 2008.
According the the Associated Press, the 2007 show which featured Ellen Degeneres, drew in 40.1 million viewers versus the 38.9 million by Stewart.
Known mainly, of course, for his fake political newscast on Comedy Central, Stewart raised the ire of at least a few and drew mixed reviews for his equal-sided ribbing of the Hollywood elite, their political machinations and his usual self-deprecating jabs:
Stewart, who also hosted the Grammys in 2001 and 2002, noted the split decision on his own cable TV show the night after the Oscars, saying he had a great time but didn’t know how he fared until he saw the reviews.
“I sucked and was great!” he joked.
I thought his was at least a refreshing cast on an industry that tends to laud itself into lofty self-importance. I hope he holds to that line and maybe ratchets it up a notch.
You know who I wouldn’t mind to see (of Daily Show origins)? How about a stint for Stephen Colbert? Think that’ll ever happen?
