While channel surfing last week, I noticed an interesting little movie on Showtime entitled “Salvage (2006).” As a horror-flick lover, I was intrigued by the description, “A young woman continuously relives her own murder by a knife-wielding maniac.” This film is also called “Gruesome” overseas and earned widespread release in small independent film festivals.
At a short 1 hour 20 minutes, this little gem provided entertainment beyond several longer and “larger” films of the same genre. Written and directed by brothers Jeff and Josh Cook, and starring a list of relative unknowns (at least to me), I was captivated throughout.
“Salvage” tells the story of Claire, who, as stated earlier, was brutally murdered in her own home. What follows, however, is a very unique psychological thriller with a surprising ending. The gore level was low, with only one truly grotesque scene; and while the acting and dialogue was a bit amateurish, the film itself is highly unique and entertaining.
You can read more at IMDB.com; however, I highly recommend NOT doing so prior to viewing the film so as not to spoil any of it.
