Tweeney Todd??

And now, a review of Sweeney Todd by my tweenager and guest blogger, Mini_Movie_Maven.

I’m sure that most people are aware that Sweeney Todd is based upon a Broadway musical, right?  If you don’t know, then, I really don’t know what to say except, “Shame on you!” (Finger movements added for emphasis!)

So, assuming you do know, then let me give you my take on the movie, which I’ve already (only) seen twice.  However, we have pre-ordered it on DVD so once it is released on April 1st, I shall lock myself in my room and be oblivious to the world (except for food and toilet breaks.)

Despite the fact that I am a Johnny Depp fan, this movie ROCKS in addition to him due to the combination of my psychotic tendencies and the film’s dark undertones (HERE BE SPOILERS! ahem, cough, cannibalism, cough, murder, ahem, wink, nudge, poke.)

The musical numbers are awesome, particularly “Epiphany”, “A Little Priest”, and “Worst Pies in London.”  As I have committed the entire soundtrack to memory, I highly enjoy both annoying my mom (Movie_Maven) and my friends with the combination of constant singing and my incessant quoting at inappropriate times.  Which brings me to the question of why can I sing with an English accent, but suck at speaking with one?  (Any helpful comments greatly appreciated.)

Anyway, back to the movie….

Well, it does have a LOT of blood, but it’s pretty theatrical (like, I didn’t puke or anything); but I do have to admit I’m a fan of guts (not mine, mind you…but others.)  I love the costumes, the acting, the sets (Oscar-winner right here folks), and the music (the music, OMG I LOVE the music.  It’s the only music I listen to anymore besides Lord of the Rings!!  Sorry Avril, I still like you, but….)

I give it a “super-uber, smartically fantastic RANDOM rating of 1 million out of a possible 5.

Look for more blogs from me in the future, as long as I don’t get in trouble.

Sweeney Todd

Care for a shave?!  Muahahahahahahahahaha!!!!

Great review, Mini_Movie_Maven. I did know that Tim Burton’s film was based on a musical by Stephen Sondheim. In fact I saw the musical years ago on PBS and it was very popular among theater majors at the college I went to. Did you know, though, that versions of the Sweeney Todd story date back as far as the 14th Century?
Anyway consider working with someone who actually speaks with an English accent to see if you can’t improve your own accent.
