Here Come the Water Works!

 **NOTE:  Here (may) be spoilers!!

So, I am sitting here, watching Ice Castles (1978) for the, oh, four-hundred-thousandth-time since I fell in love with the film at the age of (incoherent mumble) and, as is always the case, as soon as the introductory notes of the final version of “Through the Eyes of Love” begins toward the end of the movie, my eyes immediately fill with tears - a quasi-Pavlovian response which occurs EVERY SINGLE TIME I watch it.

This got me thinking about other movies which possess the same unrelenting tearjerking effect (on me, anyway.)

Beaches (1998) - As soon as “Wind Beneath My Wings” begins to play; particularly when the camera cuts to Hilary’s  daughter at the (MAJOR SPOILER) funeral.

An Affair to Remember (1957) - Who DIDN’T cry at the end of this film?

One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest (1975) - um, the END.

The Shawshank Redemption (1994) - Andy’s arrival in Zihuatanejo (yes, in fact, I did have to look that one up.)

The Pianist (2002) and Schindler’s List (1993) - I was teary-eyed throughout both entire movies.

Six Weeks (1982) - in the subway near the end.  If you’ve seen the film, you know exactly to what I am referring.

Honorable mentions:

Finding Neverland, Sophie’s Choice, Titanic, Imitation of Life, Pan’s Labryinth, Million Dollar Baby, The Green Mile, and every Susan Hayward film.

And just to prove that I’m an incredible sap, when the (SPOILER ALERT) female and calf in Orca are killed and the male pushes her to shore, I bawl hysterically.

Now, this is hardly an exhaustive list, so stay tuned for (gasp) sequels!!
