Cyd Charisse, actress and danseur extraordinaire passed away on Monday, June 17th at the age of 86 from an apparent heart attack.

Born Tula Finklea in 1921, she began her dancing career with the Ballet Russe, where, on tour in Europe, she met and married French dancer Nico Charisse, whom she wed in 1939 in Paris.  Prior to appearing in ‘Singin’ in the Rain, she had just become a mom, having her only son with her second husband, Tony Martin.

The beautiful, Texas-born Charisse danced to fame in the musicals of the 1940s and 1950s with the likes of Gene Kelly and Fred Astaire in such classic films as ‘Brigadoon’, ‘Silk Stockings’, and my all-time favorite movie ’Singin’ in the Rain’.  at the height of her career, her legs were reportedly insured for one million dollars.

My condolences to her friends and family for their loss.
