Don’t Sign Here - “Hancock” in Review

I have to say, I have not been a big fan of Will Smith (particularly during his Fresh Prince era).  Despite my really not wanting to see this film (but being prodded by hubby and daughter); in hindsight, I should have stood my ground.

This film had all the makings of a good time; however, mediocre acting and poor execution in the effects department left me with a slightly acrid taste in my mouth

There were funny moments, particularly toward the beginning and in the prison; although I’m not entirely sure if my criminal justice background made those moments funnier than the general public might think.

Will Smith was primarily responsible for the high points in this movie.  Charlize Theron (perhaps one of the most beautiful women on the planet) was stunning and a very capable co-star.  It took me half the film to realize that Jason Bateman was Ray, as I remember him from “Little House on the Prairie” and nothing else; and he was, in my opinion, weak and very one-dimensional.

Personally, I preferred Hancock as the self-centered, negligent jerk he was at the beginning of the film.  His “transformation” to true super hero status removed a lot of the fun in my mind.  The last third of the movie completely ruined the enjoyability of the first portion, which is the most I will say to avoid “spoiling” anything.
