Yet another horror film review by yours truly…

So, as those of you who actually do read my blog know, I am a horror movie nut.  Despite the fact that they scare the bejeezus out of me, I persist in renting and watching them and, subsequently, having nightmares.

Tonight’s fare was ‘Seance’, a 2006 film written and directed by Mark L. Smith, whose resume includes having written ‘Vacancy’ (2007) with Kate Beckinsale and Luke Wilson (and yes, I did watch - and enjoyed it); along with also writing ‘Vacancy 2′, scheduled for a 2009 release (of which I can only ask “Why?!”)  ‘Seance’ is Smith’s directorial debut, if you will, and, frankly, it shows.

The film was entertaining, somewhat.  The actors stunk, particularly A.J. Lamas (yessirreee folks, Lorenzo’s kid who, by the way, looks exactly like his father) among a group of perky, 20-somethings with rather limited film experience, but impeccable makeup and wardrobe.  The highlight of the film was Highlander’s eye candy Adrian Paul, still incredibly sexy a year shy of 50 years old, who plays the **SPOILER ALERT** executed serial killer who was brought “back” by the seance to terrorize the moronic college kids who remained locked in the dorm over Thanksgiving vacation.

By the way, the little girl is, indeed, creepy (much creepier than my own!); although not as frightening to me as ventriloquist dummies.  Dead Silence’ (2007) like, totally freaked me out!!  OMG!

For those of you who enjoy a more (slightly) psychologically-based ghost story with (relatively) limited gore (unlike recent splatterfests such as ‘Hostel’), and a lame ending, ‘Seance’ provides a reasonable distraction for an hour and a half; particularly if the only thing on television is ‘Hannah Montana’, ‘World Poker Championship 2003, or (which my husband loves) hunting/fishing programs on the Outdoor Channel, VS, or MAN (a clever acronym for the Maximum Adventure Network.)

(ooh, lookie….it even says ‘From the writer of Vacancy’ - I hadn’t noticed before!)
