Saw V

Of course I HAD to see the 5th installment of the ‘Saw’ films as soon as I could (Sunday evening) and then saw it again (pun intended) Tuesday afternoon with Movie_Maven_Jr.

As a true fan of the franchise, I enjoyed the film immensely, despite less than stellar reviews by those who continually question, “why?” with respect to sequels.  As not to give out any spoilers, suffice it to say that this installment answers some critical questions; however, creates more open-ended ones which I hope will all come together next Halloween in what is supposed to be the final film of the series. (SOB)

The traps in this one were quite cringeworthy, and I have to saw the opening sequence made me feel almost as nauseated as the ‘Hostel’ achilles-slicing-scene, which, of course, is not a bad thing.  Very good special effects.  And, as always, creative traps.

Perhaps the only complaint I have about the film is that Costas Mandylor (Detective Mark Hoffman) and Scott Patterson (Special Agent Peter Strahm) looked eerily alike.  Had it not been for the injury sustained by one toward the beginning of the film, it would have been more difficult to tell them apart.  But after the ending, we won’t have THAT problem anymore (evil chuckle.)

For tomes of more information about this film and the series itself, check out imdb.com (the boards are chock full o’information and opinions - some exceedingly humorous.)
