In Seven Pounds, Will Smith plays a suicidal protagonist who sets out to atone for his role in an automobile accident that claimed seven lives.  During the course of his journey, he falls in love with Rosario Dawson who wants to help him as well.  I’m a fan of Smith’s (post-Fresh Prince) and this film looks intriguing.

The Tale of Despereaux - Yet another ‘based on a children’s bestselling book’ animated film adaptation.  Movie_Maven_Jr, who read the book, said, “They’ll probably ruin this like they did The Golden Compass.”

The Wrestler - I am a huge fan of Darren Aronofsky (The Fountain, Pi, Requiem for a Dream) and this film about an aged wrestler (played by Mickey Rourke) seeking redemption/revenge also looks intriguing.  Oscar buzz abounds.

Yes Man - Is anyone else sick of Jim Carrey (and Will Ferrell, for that matter) in dumb, stereotypical comedic roles?

Nothing But The Truth stars the gorgeous Kate Beckinsale as a reporter jailed for refusing to name one of her sources (which turns out to be a covert CIA operative) following a story on an American missile attack on Venezuela.  Also stars Matt Dillon and always-great Vera Farmiga.

Valkyrie - Featuring Tom Cruise (whom I truly cannot stand) in a historical epic about the plot to murder Hitler near the end of WWII.  Great story, horrible casting.

Frank Miller’s (of Sin City fame) The Spirit revolves around a back-from-the-dead cop trying to save his city from an evil nemesis (how cliche.)

Revolutionary Road re-pairs Kate Winslet and Leonardo DiCaprio as a 1950s couple trying to break out of their mediocre existence in a film directed by Winslet’s husband Sam Mendes.

Marley and Me involves a cute puppy’s effect upon a newlywed couple and stars the enormously annoying Jennifer Aniston and Owen Wilson.  Yeah, raising a dog teaches one about the trials and tribulations of parenting….NOT.

Brad Pitt’s newest vehicle, The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, also stars Cate Blanchette and Tilda Swinton in a fantasy-romance about a man who ages backward.  The buzz over the visual effects is tremendous.

I’m just as sick, if not more sick, as you are of Jim Carrey and Will Ferrell in dumb comedic roles. I loved “Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind” and wish Carrey would do more films like it (although it’s hard to imagine another film *like* it). I was glad to see Ferrell take on a non-comedic role in “Stranger Than Fiction”, and yet his performance fell flat.
And thank you, by the way, for being the first reviewer ever to give me some idea of what “Seven Pounds” is about. I like Will Smith, but the trailers for the film have been so vague I’ve been wary of it.
And somehow I missed that “The Wrestler” was an Aronofsky film. That goes straight to the top of my list of reasons to see it, although I was already pretty intrigued by it.

I agree with you regarding Eternal Sunshine…I LOVED that film, it’s in my collection. Same with Aronofsky - huge fan of him as well.
