I watched Prom Night (2008) last night on Starz (thankfully I have the channel free for several months because of a DirecTV screw-up or I would have called to request a credit on my bill for being forced to pay to watched this nonsensical and horrid film!)
First of all, according to the boards on imdb.com (and we all know the cinematic pedigree of posters in there), this is NOT a remake of the 1980 Jamie Lee Curtis vehicle of the same name with a totally different plot. Nevertheless, because a movie shares a title with an earlier film, it is somehow always a remake.
Please don’t waste your time, folks. Seriously. As a thriller/horror/mystery, the film had absolutely none of the aforementioned elements. The “jump” moments were not jump-worthy (and let me tell you, I jump at everything but did not at all during this film.) The gore was non-existent. I had no idea that blood could coagulate so quickly that moments after someone was stabbed, there is no evidence of blood. And casting Johnathan Schaech as a psychopathic killer is akin to casting Reese Witherspoon as Joan Crawford in “Mommie Dearest” or Michael Jackson as a priest. IT WON’T WORK!!
From glaring plot holes to horrid dialogue to very obvious continuity errors, the only positive aspect of this entire movie was James Ransome as Detective Nash, and he (SPOILER ALERT) unfortunately, dies. Oh, and according to Movie_Maven_Jr, Emmitt Cullen from Twilight is in it (but he sucks too.)
