Surprisingly, it wasn’t THAT bad…

Mr_Movie_Maven and I saw the “remake” of “Friday the 13th” last week because I have been overloaded with work and wanted to escape into the relaxing realm of mindless entertainment.  Well, relax wasn’t the right word.

Now, I love horror movies.  I love getting scared to death and having to turn on all the lights and take my dogs into the bathroom to check behind the shower curtain (although I have had some serious allergies to the dogs this year and have had to do bathroom checks by myself with the aid of my huge mag-lite since Mr_Movie_Maven won’t be the chivalrous man I thought he was and inspect the bathroom to ensure his beloved wife won’t be snatched by some mirror-inhabiting demon or murdered by an inbred cannibal mental hospital escapee wielding some medieval weapon.)  But I digress.  Where was I?  Oh yeah, getting scared.

Going along with getting scared, I love to jump in movies.  In fact, the more the better.  And yes, even though I know something’s going to happen and the sound guy will punctuate the deed with some loud note, I still jump.  And scream sometimes.  Yes, really.  And I jumped a LOT in this film.  Whether you choose to credit that to my stress level or not, I have to say that I was expecting to hate the film, but was pleasantly surprised.

No, the acting isn’t going to win any Oscars and the story is very predictable, but as mindless entertainment, the movie certainly did its job (although I’m still contemplating the accuracy of whether silicone-enhanced cleavage does, in fact, burn.)

However, it is NOT a remake.
