This had to be one of the worst “based on a true story” haunted/possessed house films I have ever seen.  Most of the scary “jump” parts (which I usually love in horror films) were given away in the trailer and I was, subsequently, disappointed with the film.  The acting was horrible, almost as if the actors were thinking to themselves, “I’m supposed to utter this drivel?”; and I usually like Virginia Madsen and Elias Koteas.  The plot was plodding and the children’s reactions to the “events” in the house were, to me, completely unrealistic.  I would have been out of that house at the first sign of “I see dead people.” The special effects were adequate, but quite unimpressive and too “choppy” for the genre.  Dare I say that Michael Bay would have done a much better job than Peter Cornwell.

Anyway, it is interesting that the boards on imdb.com have so many positive reviews of this film.  To each his own, I suppose.
